Marcel Barsotti, Schweizer Komponist und Filmmusiker, liefert den Score zum Historiendrama und Schicksalsepos „Die Päpstin“ von Erfolgsregisseure Sönke Wortmann und bebildert mit seinem Soundtrack die Legende um den größten Skandal der Kirchengeschichte.
Mehr als zehn Monate arbeitete Marcel Barsotti an dem Soundtrack. Über 160 Mitwirkende, darunter das Orchester und der Chor der Staatsphilharmonie Rheinland-Pfalz, setzten seine musikalische Vision um. „Die Päpstin“ ist bereits die dritte Zusammenarbeit mit Sönke Wortmann nach „Deutschland. Ein Sommermärchen“ und „Das Wunder von Bern“. Seine Exzellenz im Bereich klassischer Musik lässt den mehrfach preisgekrönten Barsotti aus der Menge erfolgreicher Filmmusiker herausragen. Auch für „Die Päpstin“ schuf er ein in seiner Vielfalt und atmosphärischen Dichte komplexes Werk, das nicht nur musikalisch höchsten Anspruch, sondern auch Unterhaltung verspricht. Dabei verzichtet Barsotti bewusst auf bekannte Stilelemente der verfilmten Epoche und findet stattdessen zu einer eigenen klassisch-musikalischen Sprache, die die zeitlose Gültigkeit des Filmthemas kongenial trägt.
Das CD-Album mit dem Original Soundtrack zum Film enthält im Booklet exklusive Beiträge von Marcel Barsotti, der Bestsellerautorin Donna Woolfolk Cross und Sönke Wortmann.
