"The Physician 2": Sequel to the International Box Office Hit to be Released in German Cinemas at Christmas 2025

Munich/ Berlin, June 24 2024 – „The Physician“ gets a sequel. The second part of the medieval epic „The Physician 2“ will be released in German cinemas on December 25, 2025. Principle photography will begin in about ten weeks.

With the successful adaptation of Noah Gordon’s historical bestseller, „The Physician“ celebrated great success in 2013. Now comes the long-awaited sequel to the story of young doctor Rob Cole, played by Tom Payne („The Physician,“ „The Walking Dead,“ „Prodigal Son“), distributed by Constantin Film. The movie will again be directed by Philipp Stölzl („The Physician“, „Young Goethe in Love“, „Chess Story“).

Synopsis: 11th century – After fleeing from Isfahan, the physician Rob Cole and his companions are stranded in his old home of London to spread the light of his medical knowledge. He soon becomes entangled in the intrigues of the royal family and must once again fight for the lives of his patients, for recognition of his work, and against an entirely new challenge – the suffering of the human psyche.

„The Physician“ fascinated audiences. At the time, UFA acquired the film rights to the story, which was once considered unfilmable, and successfully adapted the historical novel into a movie. „The Physician“ sold more than 3.6 million tickets at the box office in Germany alone and was distributed to more than 60 countries. At its TV premiere in December 2014, the film reached 7.51 million viewers.

„The Physician 2“ is a Wolf Bauer / Philipp Stölzl production and is produced by Zeitsprung Pictures GmbH and UFA Fiction with Tom Payne as Executive Producer. Other co-producers and partners are Constantin Film Produktion, Prime Video, ZDF and Beta Cinema, who are also handling worldwide sales. The film is supported by the Film- und Medienstiftung NRW, the Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg (MBB), the German Federal Film Fund (DFFF) and the German Federal Film Board (FFA).
